Welcome to this website about hymns and worship songs and how to play them!The idea is to suggest the complete music for hymns including play-overs and bridges for hymn players and organists in particular. We believe this has not been tackled before. The musicality of our hymn playing is often almost primitive when compared to the world of the anthem, oratorio and opera. Nowhere except in hymn playing does the accompaniment stop just before the lyrics are due to be sung with the hope that singers and accompanying music will then start and remain together. Time for a change. Subject to copyright, we intend to publish complete hymns and songs and in some instances to revitalise some older words with new tunes. Some will be available for download from here, usually in PDF. Inevitably the amount of new material will be far less than that which we have "completed" so we will make this freely available for download but with copyright included. It is good that much recent music is written with the complete score in mind, and quite often the big hymns seen on TV are fully scored including continuity between start and verses and between the verses themselves.

The Training SessionClive has run a successful pilot evening where he illustrated from the organ console what he is trying to achieve using a powerpoint presentation to highlight the details. Lasting about an hour and a half he illustrates the way some relatively recent tunes such as Camberwell have already begun the process successfully. All of Clive's new music is carefully written to include the full play-over and any bridges. He is prepared to bring this to you wherever you are but expenses will be expected. The BookWe propose to publish or to have published a Complete Hymn book that will provide advice and guidance on playing hymns and songs in the method outlined here. The book will likely contain many more hymns written out in full than will be placed on the website. It will contain just the detailed play-overs and bridges where it is apparent that a full score is not necessary. Examples of the play-overs and bridges may be seen on their respective pages and some full scores may be found from their links on the Hymns page in PDF. |
